Summer Surf Girl

Summer Surf Girl is an annual awareness program for Surf Life Saving Clubs and Branches throughout Queensland. Every year, clubs are given the opportunity to nominate an entrant who will spend 9-12 months fundraising as an ambassador for surf lifesaving.
Throughout the year, the Summer Surf Girls become the public face of Surf Life Saving to promote Surf Life Saving and the vital need for support and funds from communities across Queensland.
The program has been running annually since 1964 and, through its history, has raised more the $11 million for Surf Clubs within Queensland. It has now developed into the largest and longest running annual club fundraiser and awareness program of its kind within Australia.
The Summer Surf Girl program also successfully highlights the role women hold within Surf Life Saving, a role that has changed significantly over the last 46 years. Today, these fully trained female lifesavers perform various operational roles within their clubs including Patrol members, Patrol Captain, IRB Captain, Youth Development Officers, Junior Activities Coordinators, First Aid Officers and in Club Administration.
