Our Beach

Our Beach

Background Rotator Manager

When the people of Australia and throughout the world think of Queensland and the Gold Coast the first thing that comes to mind are the golden sands of Surfers Paradise beach. In recent years Surfers Paradise has overtaken the likes of Bondi and Manly as Australia's most popular beach. Each year more than 3 million people, from all over the world, come to enjoy the beauty and atmosphere of the busiest beach in Australia.

The recent $25 million redevelopment of the Surfers Paradise foreshore has reconnect the heart of Surfers Paradise with the beach, creating a world class unique open space for visitors. Surfers Paradise Beach is one of the most iconic beaches in the world - as recognised by both the Discovery Channel & Lonely Planet. 3 kilometres of golden beach on the doorstep of the Pacific Ocean, it's the perfect place to chill out & soak up some rays, go for a swim, catch a wave, stroll or jog, or just kick back & people watch. Come & enjoy the great vibe with locals & tourists embracing the very best of seaside culture.

Since 1975 the members of Surfers Paradise Surf Life Saving Club have rescued in excess of 3,500 people, prevented another 25,000 from requiring assistance or being rescued, and treated over 5,000 First Aid cases. The club members account for over two thirds of the total number of rescues performed by volunteer Life Savers in Queensland each year. To date the club has maintained a perfect record of no lives lost between the flags in its 85+ years of existence.

The club patrols Surfers Paradise beach from September to the first week in May each year. Patrol times are usually 8.00am to 5.00pm on a weekend and public holidays with several patrol shifts operating during these times. For the holiday season patrol hours are extended from 7am to 6.30pm with surveillance patrols from 5am every day.

All members who join the club do so on a voluntary basis and undergo specific training to obtain particular awards before they can patrol our beach. Many members give up their time and energy to ensure the bathing public are safe whilst swimming between the red and yellow flags.

Surfers Paradise Surf Life Saving Club is without doubt one of the busiest beaches in Australia, in many completing double the annually recorded rescues of neighbouring Clubs. These results are testament to the phenomenal work carried our by our Volunteer Surf Life Savers and their invaluable contribution to our local community.

Visit the official Surfers Paradise Tourism website for information on the city, hotels, events, attractions, shopping and dining out.
